 Josiah Barton was born April, 1751.  He was christened 5 May 1751.  He was the son of Gilbert Barton and Sarah Winstanley of Winstanley, Wigan, Lancashire, England.

Josiah Barton married Elizabeth Holcroft 17 July 1775. They had nine children.  Josiah was a carpenter.

Six children lived to adulthood and married: William, Peter, Josiah, John,  Mary and Elizabeth.

Josiah Barton died 26 May 1829 at age 76, in Orrell, Lancashire, England. His wife Elizabeth died a year later on 22 July 1830.
