 William Barton was born 12 April 1780  He was the son of Josiah Barton and Elizabeth Holcroft of Winstanley, Wigan, Lancashire, England.

William Barton married Elizabeth Winstanley 3 April 1804. They had ten children.  William was a carpenter.

Seven children lived to adulthood and married: John, William, Josiah, James, Jane, Peter, and Ann.

William Barton died 8 April 1857 at nearly 77 years old, in Winstanley, Lancashire, England. His wife Elizabeth died 4 April 1864 just short of her 84th birthday.
